Verna Ann (Tikkanen) Hendrickson was born March 4, 1934, in Houghton, MI. Verna grew up in the Hancock, MI, area, where she was baptized in the Christian faith and was presently a member of the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato.

Verna graduated from Hancock Central High School and continued her education at Highland Park School of Nursing, Highland Park, MI, where she received her training as a registered nurse.

Verna was united in marriage Nov. 3, 1956, to Walter William Hendrickson in Detroit, MI. Together they made their home in Detroit until 1972, when they moved to Berkley, MI. Verna was employed as a surgical nurse at Northwest General Hospital in Detroit.

In 1994, Verna and Walter moved to Kingston, MN, where they spent their summers and enjoyed the Arizona sun during the winters.

Verna had a deep love for the Lord, and this was demonstrated through the way she lived her daily life. She treasured the time she spent on her devotionals; she also enjoyed spending time reading, writing in her journal, completing crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, and traveling. She continued to spend the winters in Arizona following the death of her husband.

The greatest joy of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the holidays and special events that brought the family together. Her many friends and family will deeply miss the joy and love that she gave everyone that she met.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Mary) Hendrickson of Cokato; Neal (Cheryl) Hendrickson of Dripping Springs, TX; Paul Hendrickson of Kingston, Aaron (Renee) Hendrickson of Stanwood, WA; Vickie (Robert) Bulloch, of Berkley; Valerie (Todd) Calhoun of Madison Heights, MI; and Pamela (Grant) Gildner of Berkley, MI; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, her cherished nieces in AuGres, MI, and several other beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2004; her parents, Waino and Lydia Tikkanen; and siblings, Eldon Tikkanen, Carl Tikkanen, Helen Lehto, Rose Wahlstrom, Lempe Tikkanen, and Leo Tikkanen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Inter-Lutheran Seminary, PO Box 449, Hancock, MI 49930, or Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, 5939 Oliver Avenue SW, Cokato, MN 55321.
