Critical incident in Montrose public asked to avoid area

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office released a statement via social media at approximately 1:47 p.m. today.

The statement read:

“There has been a critical incident in the city of Montrose near the Dollar General (631 Nelson Blvd./US Hwy. 12).

The incident has been contained and there is no ongoing danger to the public.

The Sheriff’s Office and other emergency responders will be in the area for a while. The public is asked to avoid the area as much as possible.”

On 04/15/24 at approximately 1:00 PM Deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Dollar General (631 Nelson Blvd.) in the city of Montrose to attempt apprehension of an adult male for outstanding arrest warrants. Deputies attempted to take the adult male into custody after he exited the store. The adult male refused to comply with commands and brandished a firearm. Less than lethal measures were deployed. The male continued to resist arrest while brandishing the firearm. A Wright County Deputy discharged their firearm, striking the adult male. The adult male was taken into custody and emergency aid was rendered by Wright County Deputies. The adult male was transported by ambulance from the scene. The incident in under investigation by the Minnesota BCA.
