The Dassel Area Historical Society

Preserving the past; enriching the present; securing the future

Dassel is fortunate to be the home of a very active historical society, which manages the museum at the Universal Lab Building located at 901 First St. N., north of town in Dassel.

The Universal Lab Building is perhaps the only surviving Ergot processing plant in the country. The ULB is on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2006, was named one of the 25 top preservation projects in the state of Minnesota by the Minnesota Preservation Alliance.

The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and during the summer Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The building serves as the headquarters of the area historical society, which conducts monthly meetings the fourth Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m. Programs are scheduled throughout the year.

The building is also available for business and organizational meetings, as well as private rental.

Officers are: Deanna Martens, president; and Jerry Bollman, vice president and chairman of the board. Staff includes Julie Lindquist, museum director; and Amy Wilde and Kristi Rorah, assistants.
