City Offices

City offices are located at 460 Third Street, right beneath the water tower. Postal address is City of Dassel, PO Box 391, Dassel, MN 55325.

To reach city hall by phone, call (320) 275-2454; hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, summer hours are: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays.

The city hall contains the city clerk’s office, Public Library, and Community Room (call to reserve).

The city clerk’s office provides a constant flow of services to the citizens and visitors of Dassel, as well as building permits, utility services, and a wide range of information.

The police department was disbanded December 2006. The city contracts with Meeker County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services.

The head of the Public Works Department is Dave Scepaniak. Other full-time public works employees are Richard Berg, Walter Hanson, and Jay Evjen.

Office staff is Billing and Permit Clerk Barbara Weege, Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Sherrie Bjork, and Administrator Clerk/Treasurer Myles Mc Grath.

The council meets the first and third Monday of the month in the city council chambers in the city offices of Dassel.

Public Library

Visit the Dassel Library for your research or recreational reading needs. The library is equipped with Internet technology, large library system resources, and can serve whatever your needs may be.

Hours are 2-5:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; and 1-7 p.m. Thursdays.

Library services include free use of the Internet, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint programs, summer reading programs for children, videos, DVDs, and books on tape to check out. They are affiliated with Hutchinson, Litchfield, and Willmar public libraries.

Fire Department

The Dassel Fire and Rescue Department is made up of 30 volunteers who have dedicated themselves to the service of the community. These firefighters are also trained Emergency Medical Responders. Whether it’s a fire, a rescue, or an emergency medical call, you are in dedicated, well-trained hands.

The Department includes Chief Dale Grochow, Assistant Chief Dave Johnson, Captain Dave Grochow, Assistant Captain Jon Trotter, Lieutenant Kurt Mortenson, Training Officer Dennis Johnson, Safety Officer/Treasurer Brian Gillman, Secretary Mitch Rawlins, Chaplain Keith Carlson, Fire Prevention Liaison Renee Massingham, and firefighters Mike Sylvester, Paul Opsahl, Doug Bollman, Randy Dawson, Phil Anderson, Chuck Nelson, Jim Hughes, Keith Day, Kevin Carlen, Greg Nelson, Jeff Putnam, Linda Lalim, Rick Craswell, Chad Terpstra, Brian Massingham, Matt Lund, Tim Lund, and Scott Lund.

Parks and Recreation

Dassel parks are located throughout the community and vary in size.

The downtown area hosts a small, friendly park with a pavilion and area for picnics.

Breeds Park, located along Hwy. 12 at the intersections of Guy and Willis streets, is host to the Veteran’s Memorial, tennis courts, picnic shelter, and restrooms.

The Dassel baseball facility, north on Second Street, contains one of the area’s finest baseball fields, and was host to the 2005 state amateur baseball tournament.

Sellards Park, a residential neighborhood park, is a favorite gathering place for small children to enjoy the playground.

The north end of Spring Lake is home to the Spring Lake County Park with launch ramp, fishing pier, and picnic and athletic facilities.

New park areas in new neighborhoods are emerging as families continue to choose Dassel to call home.
